Is now, and ever shall be

The Father who dwells in me is doing his works.

I continue to confuse myself when I answer questions about how I’m feeling. To bring my 34 sessions of cardiac rehab to a satisfying conclusion, they provide a survey which I complete. I realized my answers are more positive than I expected. I feel worse than I say I do. My body feels tired or impatient, full of aches and pains. But my thinking is very positive. All is well.

This kind of “olding” takes its toll on my emotions as well. My thoughts of well-being and peace are covered over by the soreness in my shoulder and back, and the cough that hasn’t quit for awhile, and my itchy eyes.

Whoever believes in me will do the works that I do, and will do greater ones than these, because I am going to the Father.

I pray in faithfulness for the healing that our bodies need, but I am more focused on surrender than prosperity (so to speak). Whether my body recovers and relaxes seems more about whether my spirit recovers and relaxes, trusting God for the works he has done, is doing and will do. I love to pray the “Glory Be:”

Glory be to the Father and the Son, and to the Holy Ghost, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be.

As my friend Sophia pointed out to me, perspective changes everything, whether I’m worrying about papers to write, pots to glaze, doctors to visit, or tasks to complete. And when I think about President Joe Biden I begin to understand this perspective thing even better. His constant display of good cheer (however staged) inspires me. He’s 81, and I’m just 75. He’s thinking about the problems of a very large world, and I’m concerned about getting a dental discount plan.  He has many folks to help him, and I have anyone I need when I really need them.

I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

This is the way the world begins, not with a whimper but a bang. Jesus’ perspective was God’s perspective, which covers all of creation from beginning to end. Glory be!

If you know me, then you will also know my Father.

Miles and Jasper spent a few hours with us yesterday, moving from toy to toy and place to place. Outside the weather was humid and rainy. As we move into May the Texas temperatures are rising, with a 93 predicted for Thursday next week. At many stoplights, men and women walk up and down the traffic with signs.

“Anything helps!”

“My children are hungry.”

“God bless you.”

“Thanks for all you do.”

“Give me oil in my lamp, keep me burning!”

I haven’t seen many bible verses, but as the weather changes and the heat comes, I like this verse from Psalm 19 on a sign:

The heavens declare the glory of God.

(1 Corinthians 15, Psalm 19, John 14)
